Provided with art supplies and welcomed to create during the sessions, expressive arts therapy is an alternative to traditional talk therapy. Art, movement, drama and play in a supportive space can function as therapeutic catalysts for personal/interpersonal development, self-exploration, growth and healing.

The emphasis of expressive arts therapy is on the process of engaging with the arts and reflecting on the experience of creating rather than the end product. When working with young clients, art and play can also act as a lubricant in building rapport, helping them feel safe and expressing themselves in a way that words cannot.
